Bradford’s City Park gets £25 million go-ahead at last

Bradford’s City Park scheme last month finally guaranteed its start-up with a mixed funding package from Yorkshire Forward, the HCA and the Regional Transport Board as well as Bradford Council itself.
The Council has been trying for some time to create a brand new city centre park to act as a catalyst for the regeneration of the West Yorkshire city, but was rejected by the Big Lottery Fund in 2007.
Yorkshire Forward is contributing up to £7 million for the physical infrastructure. The six-acre urban park will include a 4,200sq m pool that can be drained to provide a stage for entertainment and sporting events.
Designed by the architect Will Alsop, City Park is part of the wider plan to transform Bradford’s city centre, which is full of attractive old warehouses ripe for conversion to residential use. The scheme has already gone to tender and physical work on the site could start as early as October.
