Two contractors are combining to secure contracts for London’s Crossrail project, including the new station on the Isle of Dogs.
Bouygues and Laing O’Rourke are to sign a memorandum of understanding to enable them to compete for infrastructure work on the £16 billion scheme. They have also already entered the bidding process for EDF’s proposed new nuclear power station at Hinkley Point in Somerset.
In the recession, transport and energy projects such as Crossrail and the UK’s nuclear programme are vital markets for contractors and forming partnerships is seen as a good way to secure them. In a separate development, Costain and Sir Robert McAlpine have put in a joint bid for nuclear plant construction at Hinkley Point and elsewhere in the country.
