Local approach to fund infrastructure unveiled

A new investment advisory group is set to drive forward the next generation of local infrastructure projects. (Sourced from LocalGov.co.uk.)
 
Local Partnerships, which launched this week, will offer councils and other public sector agencies support and advice for PFI, PPP and other funding mechanisms. It will take over after the decision by the LGA, HM Treasury and CLG to merge 4Ps and part of PUK to create a single public sector body to advise on capital expenditure. read more

TIF is good news for the UK economy

“This should not be seen as a short-term measure, but a long-term solution to fund infrastructure development.”
 
That's according to Peter Cosmetatos, British Property Federation director, finance and investment. He has been looking at how the US tax increment financing (TIF) model could apply to the UK and has no doubt why it has received an enthusiastic response from the developer community.
 
“TIF offers the prospect of accessing a significant additional income stream that could affect the viability of stalled regeneration schemes,” he told SocInvest. If adopted, Cosmetatos reckons TIF could transform the economics of infrastructure investment. read more

TIF could unlock Nine Elms regeneration

At Nine Elms developer Treasury Holdings UK, finance director Matthew Taylor revealed exclusively to SocInvest that "Tax Increment Financing could be what it takes to make this happen".
 
Covering more than 200 acres, Nine Elms includes Battersea Power Station in the largest un-regenerated site in the Greater London Authority area, and one of the biggest in Europe.
 
"The lack of transport infrastructure has been the main reason for the failure to regenerate the Nine Elms area," said Taylor. Neither Transport for London (TfL) nor government sources can fund the creation of the essential transport network required for the development to succeed. read more
